Sharing financial records

14 December 2001, bank supervisors and legal experts of G10 central banks and supervisory authorities met at the BIS to discuss how to prevent the abuse of the financial system when it is used to finance terrorism, and, specifically, issues relating to the sharing of financial records between jurisdictions to assist in the fight against terrorism. The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to review international developments directed at terrorism, and to consider specific assistance that central banks and banking supervisors might provide. The participants discussed measures that had been taken in their jurisdictions to combat terrorist financing and surveyed mechanisms for the sharing of financial records between national jurisdictions. In many of the countries represented at the meeting, legislation has been or is in the course of being amended to provide for sanctions to deter terrorist activities, including measures to deter terrorist financing.

Libyan jet crash

A Libyan passenger jet plane crashed several minutes before landing at Tripoli airport after a more than 7-hour flight across Africa from Johannesburg. There had been 104 people (93 passengers and 11 crew) aboard. The passengers were mainly Dutch returning from vacations in the South African Republic. The sole survivor is 10 years old Dutch boy, who is currently in the emergency room of one of Tripoly's hospitals. So far 96 bodies have been recovered from the crash site. The Airbus A330-200 flight 8U771 that crashed was operated by the Libyan company Afriqiyah Airways, a low-cost airline providing cheap flights to Europe, Africa, and Asia. The company has no previous records of any accidents. By now the blackboxex are recovered, so everybody's waiting for the results of the investigation concerning the cause of the crash. It's known, however, that the airpot of Tripoly is not equipped with a precision approach system. Some experts say the likeliest cause of the crash must be due to a shallow angle of the plane descent.

The phone numbers 020-7008-8765 in London and 0203-355-2737 in Tripoli are where information about the victims can be asked for by relatives and friends.

Alternative To Recycling

The United States handed over this ship (Former USS LSM-338) renamed HTMS KUT to the Thai Navy in 1962. The ship, with the time passing dilapidated beyond repair, was in use for more than 60 years until it was sunk to serve as artificial reef in Pattaya Bay for wreck diving. Now it rests on the sea bed slightly North off Koh Sak at the depth of approximately 30 meters beneath the sea level and is very popular among recreational scuba diving.

John Mayer Playboy Interview Text: "Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass..."

This week's Wednesday on 10th February Playboy interviewed a popular singer, songwriter and guitarist John Mayer, and some of his words shocked the public bringing many people a big discussion to talk on. Here is a part of the interview, where John Mayer uses the racial epithet that caught mass attention of public:

PLAYBOY: If you didn’t know you, would you think you’re a douche bag?

MAYER: It depends on what I picked up. My two biggest hits are “Your Body Is a Wonderland” and “Daughters.” If you think those songs are pandering, then you’ll think I’m a douche bag. It’s like I come on very strong. I am a very…I’m just very. V-E-R-Y. And if you can’t handle very, then I’m a douche bag. But I think the world needs a little very. That’s why black people love me.

PLAYBOY: Because you’re very?

MAYER: Someone asked me the other day, “What does it feel like now to have a hood pass?” And by the way, it’s sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a hood pass, you could call it a nigger pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a hood pass if you really have a hood pass? But I said, “I can’t really have a hood pass. I’ve never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, ‘We’re full.’"

The same day John Mayer disturbed by the mass attention brought to his words thought he would better apologize for what he said, and here is what he wrote in 7-tweet post on his feed on Twitter @johncmayer:

Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself....It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged. And while I'm using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews... It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it's gotten out of hand and I've created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don't have the stomach for it. Again, because I don't want anyone to think I'm equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again.

Amongst other things John Mayer has been talking in the interview about having sex with Jessica Simpson. On the same day Jessica published the following post in bold big font on her feed at Twitter @Jessicasimpson:

interesting day so far...hmm...

The whole interview with John Mayer was published 2 days ago at official Playboy website, and its full text can be found here.
